Cameroon is taking a significant step towards improving its tourism with the launch of its e-Visascheduled for April 30, 2023. This initiative, announced by the government in a press release, aims to simplify the process of obtaining visas for travellers wishing to discover the country's natural and cultural riches. This electronic system will make the application procedure smoother, with standardised information requirements and a process that is designed to be more accessible to all.

THE Cameroon is preparing to take a major step forward in the tourism sector with the launch of its electronic visa (e-Visa) from 30 April 2023. This system aims to simplify visa procedures for international travellers, while boosting the country's tourism sector. In this article, we look at how e-Visa will work and what it means for future visitors to Cameroon.

The Cameroonian government has made the roll-out of e-Visa official in a press release, marking a significant step forward for the country. Travellers will now be able to obtain their visa without having to be physically present at a diplomatic representation, a process that is often time-consuming and subject to interminable waits. The dedicated website, evisacam.cmis already up and running to start filling in applications, although the process will not become fully operational until the announced launch date.

The e-Visa platform has been designed to be intuitive and accessible. The information required to complete a visa application is simple and straightforward, including personal details, travel documents and the type of visa required. The system even offers an option for an express visa, which is rare in electronic procedures. The application will also require a copy of the flight ticket and passport, as well as a letter of invitation in some cases.

It is already possible to submit applications, which will be marked with a "paid" status, although payments will not be processed until 30 April. This early start will allow travellers to prepare for the arrival of e-Visa while familiarising themselves with the procedure.

Cameroon boasts a variety of tourist attractions, combining spectacular scenery with inestimable cultural wealth. However, the country struggles to attract visitors, receiving less than a million tourists a year. Many sites are underdeveloped, which discourages travel agencies and limits their international promotion.

With the introduction of e-Visa, Cameroon aims to reshape its image on the global tourism scene. By making the process of obtaining a visa more accessible, the country hopes to attract more tourists, thereby promoting local economic development and improving tourism infrastructure.

Cameroon is often described as "all of Africa in one country" thanks to its geographical and cultural diversity. The idyllic beaches of Kribi, the majestic mountains of Mount Cameroon, and UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Sangha National Park and the Dja Wildlife Reserve offer a host of unique experiences for nature and adventure lovers.

Tourist infrastructures exist, particularly in areas such as the Campo Ma'an National Park, which offers a wide range of activities. ecolodges and viewing trails for wildlife observation. However, these infrastructures will need to be strengthened and made more secure to accommodate the growing number of visitors, which would be facilitated by the new e-Visa system.

A long-awaited launch
